AKIRA (fanArt)

Here are some speed paint photo-bash studies of the espers and I started and idea on the military special forces unit but did not get too far. I just watched the movie recently and got inspired to paint for no reason.
Akira was one of my favorite cartoons growing up... but I just mainly watched the last part and the bike chase coz the rest of the movie was boring as hell.. lol, I was a kid, I just wanted to see the action parts. But as I grew older I started paying attention to all of the movie and start noticing all the overall design and story that makes this movies special. I had the same experience with Stanley Kubrick's "2001" and Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner". I liked them as a kid but I started to appreciate them more when I got older.

MTG Grand Prix San Jose

Hey guys I will be at the San Jose Convention Center on October 13-14
I will be signing cards and selling some artist proofs. 
I am planning to also have some prints available and hopefully some play-mats with printed MTG art.

When I first got to NC soft Santa Monica in 2004, I was tasked to design this boss for the cinematic(link). 
I was working closely with modeler Manny Fragelus, unfortunately he had to leave for better opportunities at Dreamworks.

But luckily we were able to get another awesome modeler, Richard Diamant, and this image I posted is a paint over on top of his 3d model to show art direction for the materials and textures. It was my first game gig so there was a lot to learn :)

I am still searching for my sketches for the design, I should get to post it up next week.

Infamous 2 Creature Designs

Here are some sketches I did for the Aaron Sims company for Infamous 2, a variation of one of Jerad Marantz design. I know it is very late posting these. Things just get lost sometimes when you got a lot of hard drives. These were all sketched in photoshop and done in a day.

My good friends at Adhesive games(former co-workers at offset) just released a teaser trailer for their game. I have played the game a while back before they got funding and man did I have fun, but those guys are merciless and destroyed me anyway...yeah I am talking to you Dave :) lol
Man it seems like everyone that split from Offset Software has a game out already or coming out. The studio from my last post were also from Offset.. plus I did not get to mention that Fractive the original owners of Offset also has a game out called "Lane Splitter"click on the link and check it out, they got like 5 million downloads!

Some quick B/W studies and I tried some z-brush into my process for the final image .
The good thing about doing the z-brush model is that I did not have to struggle so much with the overlaps and the perspective of the head's angle, but since I did not finish sculpting the legs I struggled with that (lol). All in all this was a really quick turnaround (for me anyway). 1.5 hours sculpting and 3 hours trying to decide on what shape that lightning should be .. aargh lol

Swamp Thing

I wanted to start this year with a creature post and get this creature blog back on track! Here is a quick photobash .. well not so quick, I wanted to keep it under an hour but I ended up changing the design a bunch of times, I am still not happy with it. I will post the final next week.

Inspired by the man thing / swamp thing , I first saw him when I was 4 I think. He was one of the first comic book characters I remember that I liked.... Incredible hulk and the X-men were also introduced to me at that time.

 Here is the final. I decided to clear the background to minimize the clutter and keep the focus on the creature.
