Seventh Son Concept Art

Here are some Creature Designs I did for Seventh Son the movie when I was at Rhythm and Hues, based off the best selling book "The Last Apprentice". The dragon design was for the transformation of the main witch - Mother Malkin- into a dragon type creature. Some other ideas for witches costumes and misc creatures.
If anyone is curious of my process of creating this image I have an old tutorial you can check out LINK  ... enjoy!  more to come (sketches and more creature designs )

In the beginning they were just gonna have the witches turn into giant eagles and owls then they decided to do dragons. We had all  in house and outsourced to come up with ideas. In the end a couple of my rough concepts were used as the direction/jumping off points for Mother Malkin and Bony Lizzy.  The director liked the head a lot but the producers thought it was too scary (this is what I was told so I hope my story is correct) so I did a variation on a more traditional dragon's head.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Concept art

Here are some concepts from Guardians of the Galaxy, the first movie I was placed on when I started work a year and a half ago at Marvel Studios. I am so happy it is doing so well. When people would ask me what I was working on they would always not know what I was talking about. But Marvel and James Gunn did an awesome job spreading awareness of the relatively unknown property. I feel so lucky getting to work on the project with Marvel Visual Development team. I was hired on as a creature designer at first because there was going to be a lot of alien designs that needed to be done. I ended up getting a chance to also do some Keyframes .The baby groot creature design was one of my favorites to work on and I am glad that people enjoyed the movie as much as I had fun working on it.

           BABY GROOT - approved design

GROOT - variation

 and SAKARAAN PILOT  -approved design

BROKER- concepts that did not make the cut

KORATH - rough idea

KARINA-  rough idea

THE COLLECTOR - classic version

"Kadence" is funded!

Hey guys I wanted to share with you this kickstarter project I am art directing and doing storyboards for. Together with my co-workers at Marvel Studios, Jackson Sze and Andy Park. The film is written and directed by Jacob Johnston , he manages the visual development team which we are a part of.
Today we have great news! Our project finally got funded, but there is still time to support us, with the extra money we can cover more of the expenses. Check out the video and if you like it please consider backing the project!... Thanks again for all the support and making this project become reality.

Captain America : The Winter Soldier

Cap Illustration I did for David Igo at Sideshow Collectables, based on concepts from the movie by a good friend Ryan Meinerding, check out his art page The Hero's Journey: The Cinematic Art of Ryan Meinerding

Celebrating the much-anticipated release of Marvel's film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Sideshow is proud to present the Captain America Premium Format(TM) Figure. With a stunning likeness of award-winning actor Chris Evans, we've captured every aspect of super patriot Steve Rogers as he prepares to battle the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier. Featuring a screen-accurate sculpted costume, and switch-out classic and stealth shields, the Captain America Premium Format(TM) Figure is an outstanding addition to any Marvel collection.

In 2013 IDW Publishing contacted me to illustrate a comic book cover for them. It was issue no.4 of the Magic:the Gathering comic. It was a great opportunity and I am glad that it came out alright :)
My first comic cover. I hope I get to do more!

Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy"

It's been a pretty quiet year for me ever since I got hired to the Visual Development team at Marvel Studios. So I couldn't talk about what I was working on until now..well I dont think I can talk about anything really but you can check out the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. This was the first movie I did concept art for. I had a chance to design some costumes for the aliens you will see in the movie.. and some creatures. Enjoy!

H.P. Lovecraft inspired creature

Creature design I did for a horror film called the Nightkind. It's inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's night-gaunts.
I used Z-brush to block out overall form and photo-textures. This is a wip and needs a lot of cleaning up.
